Mikkeller launches its new Blend Series

Warning: it’s an April Fool!

Mikkeller-Italian-BlendThe Danish brewer Mikkeller is one of those producers who never ceases to amaze. After the endless series of absolutely unusual productions, in recent times they concentrated themselves on a series of themed beers. The first consecration came with the Single Hops, each of which is brewed with just one hop. Recently, following the success obtained, the Yeast Series along with the oak-aged versions of the Black Hole were announced. A new range of beers, called Blend Series, was officially introduced in these days.

As the name suggests, this is a line of products obtained blending other beers. The idea is to get very interesting beers, starting from a brew of beers already on the market. The first outcomes of this interesting idea will be “national blends”, mixing two particularly representative beers of each major country of the beer world. One of the first will be an Italian Blend, obtained by mixing a 40% of Birra del Borgo Re Ale and a 60% of Birrificio Italiano Tipopils. We’re proud to have been considered a major brewing country.

The other nations represented in this first release are Belgium, Germany, Scotland and the United States. The Belgian Blend will be a De Dolle Arabier and Cantillon Lou Pepe Kriek brew, the German Blend will celebrate the marriage between the Schlenkerla Marzen and Bayerischer Bahnhof Leipziger Gose, the Scotland Blend a mix of Brewdog Punk IPA and Harviestoun Ola Dubh 12. The U.S.blend will be a mixture of the Stone Arrogant Bastard and Left Hand Black Jack Porter. England and Czech Republic will follow soon.

Mikkel introduces this new beers with great emphasis:

To make great beers you should drink great beers, and there’s plenty of it worldwide. We wanted to find a way to honor international productions we esteem and I think this Blend Series is the best way to do it. With this range, we offer our fans the chance to try the best beers from every nation epitomized in one product. It’s a unique and exciting opportunity!

As mentioned, the national themed blend is just one of many possible variations of this new range. It’s Mikkel himself who reveals future developments:

We are already thinking on single style blending. Soon we should be able to launch the brew of the best IPA in the world, followed by an Imperial Stout Blend, a Barley Wine Blend and a Pils Blend. Regarding the national blend, we have already planned very limited continental versions: be ready for the European Blend and the American Blend, each produced by mixing all the national blends.

As you can see above, the national themed beers will show a very simple Mikkeller style label. Funny detail the faces in the classic logo of the brewery replaced by those of the brewers whose beers are used (Leonardo Di Vincenzo and Agostino Arioli for what concern Italy). The Blend Series will be available in 33 cl. format in limited release. I can’t wait to try them!
