Cantina Baladin and other news from Teo Musso

CantinaBaladin-MKokEverybody knows that Teo Musso, Baladin brewery founder , is an endlessly creative guy. This makes him a loved and hated bigwig: some welcome every news from Piozzo with open arms while others brand them as mere business deals. Obviously there are also those who try to analyze in a sound way each project and assessing his work considering only the quality of his beers, without external constraints.

Whether you belong to a category or another, Baladin are planning major new nevertheless … and it’s finally about beer. The latest news from the brewery were in fact related to “side” subjects: soft drinks, a brewery in New York, the presentation of 25cl bottles, up to perfumes and musical collaborations. It’s fine to know they’re back on beer, especially when you realize that their last new beer is that Open that since a year and a half is failing in finding its way in the consumers’ hearts.

The first major update from Piozzo is the opening of Cantina Baladin, with which the Piedmonts’ producer throws itself in a big way in the crowded segment of wood aging. The former hen-coop of his parents, which until recently housed the old production facility, will house a good 160 barrels, granted by some of the most famous Italian wineries, such as Antinori, Borgogno, Caprai, Donna Fugata, Castellare, Monterossa etc. Two new beers “dedicated to the classic souls of wine: red wines and white wines” will age in them until fall 2011.

cartolinaOPENDAY2010Cantina Baladin will open on Saturday, May 1 during the Open Day, an event where players of the brewing scenario, brewers and suppliers of various products and services (labeling, filling and production…) meet each other.

Other news from Baladin are reported in Birra Zen blog. In Turin, at Angolo dei Sapori in 1 Via della Rocca, Baladin beer will be available loose. This should knock down prices. The second news concern Nelson, a new beer brewed with Nelson Sauvin hop. Information are still few, but it’s not a absolute innovation, since the Kiwi hop has been already used by some Italian as well as foreign breweries, such as Toccalmatto in Italy and Thornbridge in the UK.
