Recently we noticed that some microbreweries are launching low-alcohol beers. The causes are many: the desire to reach a new market, the need to survive the growing avalanche of neo-prohibitionists decisions and also the  challenge  to brew lighter but tasty beers.

In the past we wrote about the rediscovery of a “light” style such as the Mild, the launch of How to Disappear Completely from the Scottish brewery Brewdog or the Italian experiences of Pause Cafe (with its Dui e mes) and Birrificio Italiano (the technique used to brew the Muse also helps to reduce the alcohol content).

The fact that we leave behind the summer and return to daily routine also has its positive aspects. Among these, the start of many beer themed evenings, maybe able to give that touch of pepper in an otherwise ordinary week. So last night I went to Ma che siete venuti a fà pub, where were presented the products of one of the most important breweries in Sweden: the Närke Kulturbryggeri (litterally “cultural brewery Närke”). In exclusive for the Roman pub, there were two beers on tap from the Scandinavian company, plus other products in bottles.

Craft beer in Italy: latest news

apaOk, these are not properly hot news, but the idea is to summarize some events that have characterized the national beer scene in recent months. Let’s start then by the opening of a new brewpub, located in Valle d’Aosta and more precisely in Grande Charrière town, close to Saint Christophe (AO). The place, called Birrificio Aosta, was inaugurated on August 7th and it’s the first microbrewery in the small region of northern Italy.

The Muse from Birrificio Italiano and Alma from Gilac

estate-300-x-226In today’s post we’re going to discover two new Italian beers, which are very special: Musa Estate (litterally Muse of Summer) from Birrificio Italiano and Alma form Gilac brewery. Referring to the first, in recent days the brewer Agostino Arioli has posted on his blog a very interesting post explaining the genesis and the production process that is behind this new creation. First of all, it is not a single new beer, but a completely new line, produced with a very peculiar method, called “second runnings”.
