One of the most interesting last week news concerned the steeply rising of one of Europe’s most popular breweries at the time. Needless to say, I’m talking about the Scottish Brewdog that in the first quarter of 2010 saw an incredible +250% in sales volume. Very impressive, especially when you consider that at the same time the brewing industry showed a decline in sales of 5.1%. Brewdog currently produces over 400,000 bottles per month and exports in 17 different nations.

'10Brewpub companies, an alternative approach to beer premises
Reading the Beverfood web-site, I found out that Italian Bicu is opening two new brewpubs with their own brand. Until yesterday I knew that Bicu was a simple brewpub in Genoa (opened in 2007). Now I find that it became a chain of restaurants/brewpubs boasting five branches scattered in northern Italy. Amazing, even if the Italian craft beer trend has inured us to a steep growing pace.

'10News from Bad Attitude, Opperbacco, Bi-DU and other
A new post dedicated – as increasingly happens – to the latest news from the Italian breweries. We start with Bad Attitude, a new brand that has linked its image to canned beer. Since the first rumors on the project, many comments focused on one question: how much will this innovative canned craft beer cost? The last week Lorenzo Bottoni replied on the Bad Attitude Blog…

'10Cantina Baladin and other news from Teo Musso
Everybody knows that Teo Musso, Baladin brewery founder , is an endlessly creative guy. This makes him a loved and hated bigwig: some welcome every news from Piozzo with open arms while others brand them as mere business deals. Obviously there are also those who try to analyze in a sound way each project and assessing his work considering only the quality of his beers, without external constraints.

'10Turan, from Tuscia a new brewery in Lazio
Last night I was invited by Mirko of bir&fud bottega at his store, where I had the pleasure of being introduced to Massimo and Orazio (and their spouses) of the newborn Turan brewery and taste their creations. The brewery is located a stone throw from Montefiascone (VT), overlooking Bolsena Lake. The area is called Tuscia, a region once inhabited by the Etruscan civilization, the first people in Italy who produced beer. The very name of the company is a tribute to this ancient people, as Turan was the goddess of love and fertility, similar to the Roman Venus and the Greek Aphrodite.

'10Birra del Borgo moves and expands

The new brew-plant, formerly Baladin
Birra del Borgo is an Italian renowned beer brand, both for the quality of its beers and for the ubiquity with which it is present in Italy (and beyond). After Baladin can rightly be considered the most important national microbrewery, thanks to the skills and successful intuitions of its creator and head-brewer, Leonardo Di Vincenzo. Today Birra del Borgo is a reliable firm, known abroad and involved in a series of parallel projects. Has experienced an impressive ascent, considering that it all started only five years ago.

'10Loverbeer: a new Italian brewer who will leave a mark
Among the newest brewers in Italy the LoverBeer brewery is the talk of the town, because of its first release, the BeerBera, on which some Italian beer guru has already lavished praise. BeerBera also left dazzled those who have had the fortune to taste it at the recent Le Birra della Merla festival.
With such a brilliant start we can predict a bright future for the LoverBeer brewery. This is not just simple luck however, because the man who hides behind the project, Valter Loverier, started this new adventure after a terrific career as a home-brewer, full of success and appreciation.

'09The introduction of the new Birrificio Joker in Milan
The city of Milan has been enhanced with a new brewery: Wednesday, October 14th at the Isola della Birra pub (via Medardo Rosso), new Birrificio Joker will officially introduct itself to all enthusiasts for the first time ever. The happening, lead by Lorenzo Dabove aka Kuaska, will be an opportunity to learn about the project and to taste the first beer from this producer, the Prater, which belongs to the Vienna style – the Prater is one of the best attractions in the Austrian capital, which named this type of beer.

'09Craft beer in Italy: latest news
Ok, these are not properly hot news, but the idea is to summarize some events that have characterized the national beer scene in recent months. Let’s start then by the opening of a new brewpub, located in Valle d’Aosta and more precisely in Grande Charrière town, close to Saint Christophe (AO). The place, called Birrificio Aosta, was inaugurated on August 7th and it’s the first microbrewery in the small region of northern Italy.

'09Revelation Cat: a new brewery on the outskirts of Rome
Rome is such a peculiar market for beer: probably the one where you can drink at best, due to some selected pubs and despite the fact that the number of breweries within the urban territory is quite small. Considering this, every beer lover in Rome and surrondings can’t remain indifferent to the news that in few months a new craft beer producer will open its doors. The name is enigmatic, Revelation Cat, we are glad to reveal some juicy details about it…
