The ranking of the 2010 Zythos Bier Festival competition, one of the most important brewing events in Belgium, was made public in these days. After the victories of Het Anker (2008) and De Dolle (2009), this year certainly triumphed a less known brewery, at least to Italians: Brouwerij The Musketeers, located between Ghent and Bruges. The gold medal went to their Troubadour Magma, considered an outsider.

It’s time to see what Unionbirrai has arranged for Pianeta Birra, the biggest beer trade fair in Italy. As you may probably know, the most striking event is Birra dell’Anno, the most important national award for craft beer. In some past post I have already explained what’s new in this 2010 edition, so I will not go further. Just add that it has achieved the considerable sum of 308 brews entered in the contest and remember that the ceremony will be held Sunday, February 21 at 14.30.

'10Warm your engines up: it’s time for Pianeta Birra
As every year in late February it’s time for Pianeta Birra, the largest European beverage trade fair. From Sunday 21 to Wednesday 24, the wonderful facility of Rimini Fiera will host an event so unique of its kind, which is as much expected by the professionals as by beer lovers. Although beverage multinationals will lord it, a foreground space will be set for craft beer, thanks to the presence of many small brewers and to the fundamental efforts of Unionbirrai.

Last Monday, during the italian tv show BQ, were announced the results of CIBA, the Italian Craft Beer Championship. The prize, organized every year by ADB (association of beer tasters), wants to reward the best national beers, divided into categories, and the three best beers ever. The winner (among 347 beers) was BB10 from Barley brewery, an excellent product, made with cooked must (sapa) of Cannonau grapes. '09Christmas beers meet Arcangelo Dandini

The beers tasted, with the exception of San Nicolò from Cittavecchia
I have had the pleasure to attend an evening organized by the association Athenaeum and hosted at the marvelous Convoglia, a fascinating restaurant placed inside the Stazione Termini in Rome. An evening theme: pairings between Christmas beers and “haute cuisine”. As mentioned, the event have been based on 5 Italian “kerstbier”, paired with dishes prepared on purpose by a myth among roman restaurateurs: Arcangelo Dandini, chef of the restaurant “L’ Arcangelo”. Host of the event was Enrico Pozza, assisted by Arcangelo himself and by the representatives of the breweries involved.

'09GrapeHops organizes a beer tour in Northern Italy
Piedmont and Lombardy are some of the most interesting Italian regions to visit for a beer lover, first of all because here started the beer revolution that now is spreading all over the country. Brewers here use both local and imported products to flavor their beers – chestnuts, local grapes, Venezuelan cocoa beans, and other exotic products all contribute to some amazing artisanal beers.
If you’re interested in visit Piedmont and Lombardy, maybe this news could be intriguing. GrapeHops Tour is planning a week-long tour in Italy to discover the beer, the people behind the beer, and the food that goes with the beer of that wonderful land.
