'09Some considerations on the Mondial de la Bière results
After the considerations upon the unexpected Croce di Malto brewery outcome at the Mondial de la Bière in Strasbourg, where their Triplexxx has been awarded as the best beer of the competition, some remarks must be done on results in general. We must proudly point out the golden medal won by Baladin brewery with its Noel. At the Mondial in Strasbourg, as in the Canadian one, juries award the 10 best beers with a golden medal and the beer that outclassed any other with a platinum one.
The other beers awarded with a golden medal are, alphabetically: Bière de Noël (Brasserie l’Abreuvoir, France), Bourganel Au Miel (Brasserie Bourganel, France), Chocolate Stout (Rogue, USA), Festival (Beau’s All Natural, Canada), La Chouape Ambrée Amère (Microbrasserie La Chouape, Canada), Levrette Chérie (Brasserie de Bretagne, France), Page 24 Blanche e Page 24 Blonde Réserve Hildeguarde (Brasserie St. Germain, France), Rigor Mortis Abt (Dieu du Ciel!, Canada), Spécial Choucroute (Brasserie Saint-Pierre, France).
A France and Canada centred list, full of unfamiliar brewery to the Italian public, but for the United States Rogue and the Baladin Noel. Not that surprising, considering that French breweries were nearly 50, with just 9 Italian breweries. Canadians were 15, a respected number indeed. One should tend to believe that the results have been influenced by matter of nationality, a theory weakened by popular contest results.
Visitors could vote the beer they liked most, showing the same preference for French and Canadian beers shown by judges. Celtika 88 brewed by Brasserie de Bretagne (France) won the golden medal, the renowned Malheur 10 (Belgium) won the silver medal. Two ex-aequo for the bronze medal, both brewed by the Canadian Dieu de Ciel! : Rosée d’Hibiscus and Dernière Volonté.
Nothing can detract the extraordinary achievement obtained by Croce di Malto Triplexxx, which beyond all has been recognized the best beer among the 422 beers in competition, despite any personal consideration on the contest itself, without any category subdivision and with 11 generic medals only. Gathering the names of the breweries that presented beers at the contest, and considering their number, one can’t but agree in defining this award an incredible success for the Italian craft beer world.
