“Birre sotto l’Albero” in Rome: a Christmas beer festival

BIRlocNATALEThe third edition of the Christmas beer festival Birre sotto l’Albero (literally “Beers under the tree”) will back in Rome in December, from Friday 11th to Sunday 13th. The event, organized by Ma che siete venuti a fa pub and bir&fud restaurant (both located in Trastevere district) with the collaboration of Domozimurghi Romani association, will host the best Christmas brews from Italy and rest of the world.

Throughout the three days you will have the chance to taste 35 different beers on draught and some vintage bottles, join two tastings leaded by Kuaska, meet a number of brewers from Italy and enjoy a variety of finger-food from bir&fud.

Here the foreign beers on tap at Ma che siete venuti a fa: Bashah (collaboration brew between Brewdog and Stone), Père Noel (De Ranke), Hybernation Ale (Great Divide), Jule IPA (Beer Here), Santa’s Little Helper (Mikkeller), Stille Nacht (De Dolle), Avec Les Bons Voeux (Dupont), Cuvèe Meilleurs Voeux (Rulles), Winterkoninske (Kerkom), Equinox (De La Senne), Bad Elf (Ridgeway).

Here the italian beers on tap at bir&fud: 25dodici (Birra del Borgo), Stella di Natale (Troll), X-Trem (BI-DU), De Rinaldi (Karma), Birra di Natale (Orso Verde), Brighella (Lambrate), Noel (Baladin), St. Amé (Scarampola), Birra di Natale (Civale), San Niccolò (Amiata), Birra di Natale (Olmaia), Christmas Cru (Almond ‘22), DivinNatale (Torrechiara), Kukumerla (Grado Plato), Winterlude (Ducato).

Extra beers on tap (must-have for all beer geeks): Paradox Caol Ila 2007 from Brewdog (two years old cask of this beer aged in whisky barrels), Struise Pannepot 2007 (two years old cask), Ola Dubh 30 from Harvistoun (another beer aged in whisky barrels, Highland Park 30 years old), Affumicator from Beck Brau (Rauchbier brewed by Andreas Gaenstaller and dedicated to Ma che siete venuti a fa), Mummia from Montegioco, Sparrow Pit (collaboration between Birrificio Italiano and Thornbridge Brewery).

Tasting @ Ma che siete venuti a fa (on Friday at 6,0o pm, 30€ per person): Oerbier Reserva 2009 (De Dolle), Fred From The Wood (Hair of the Dog), Angel’s Share (Lost Abbey), Beer Geek Brunch Wheasel Islay ed. (Mikkeller), Tsjesees Reserva (Struise).

Tasting @ bir&fud (on Saturday at 6,00 pm, 20€ per person): 25dodici (Birra del Borgo), Christmas Cru (Almond ‘22), Birra di Natale (Orso Verde), X-Trem (BI-DU), San Niccolò (Amiata), Kukumerla (Grado Plato).

Moreover, on Sunday a christmas lunch is planned at bir&fud, with courses paired with some of the beers on tap at the festival and the presence of Italian brewers. More infos on it will follow soon.
