'10Barley’s BB10 wins the Italian Craft Beer Championship
Last Monday, during the italian tv show BQ, were announced the results of CIBA, the Italian Craft Beer Championship. The prize, organized every year by ADB (association of beer tasters), wants to reward the best national beers, divided into categories, and the three best beers ever. The winner (among 347 beers) was BB10 from Barley brewery, an excellent product, made with cooked must (sapa) of Cannonau grapes. The pearl of the Sardinian brewery preceded two Montegioco’s productions: Dolii Raptor (oak aged and re-fermented with white wine yeast) and Quarta Runa (with Volpedo peaches).

The results are quite interesting. First of all, quality beer is no longer an exclusive prerogative of Northern Italy, even if the domain is still firmly in the hands of Northern producers.
Secondly, we can observe significant confirmations by young breweries. I mean Toccalmatto (ruler of the category of Anglo-Saxon inspiration), Lariano (with two gold medals) and Opperbacco.
Among the new names, I must cite Croce di Malto, which gets a good confirmation for his Triplexx, already platinum medal at Mondial de la Bière in Strasbourg. For the rest, there are many well known breweries, like Montegioco, a producer that is on the crest of a wave.
Finally, I would like to emphasize one aspect: the best three beers are “special” products, because they use “strange” ingredients or unusual production process. What do you think about it?
Here the list of judges: Flavio Boero (Carlsberg), Antonio Maiorano (Sherwood Pub), Beppe Vento (BI-DU), Alessandro Coggi, Filippo Di Cesare, Ivano Epis, Simone Ghiro, Paolo Polli (President of ADB), Andrea Reina e Davide Terziotti.
