'09Craft beer guest star at Cheese 2009
Every two years the city of Bra (CN) hosts an event that represents one of the jewels of Slow Food. It’s Cheese, an exhibition exploring the world of cheese, with the participation of producers and industry professionals from all around the world. From Friday 18 to Monday 21 September will take the 2009 edition of this event, that the beer lovers always eagerly await because of the large space devoted to our favorite drink. And even in this case the expectations will not be disappointed…
Among the many stands for cheese, in fact, you can easily reach the Piazza della Birra (Beer Square), the space devoted to brewing companies present in Cheese. Here beer lovers can sample 110 beers in bottles from 55 different manufacturers, in addition to the draft beers of the breweries participating with their own stands. As for the bottles, you’ll be spoiled for choice with an extensive selection that represents the best in Italian. Each tasting will take two goods tasting (1 euro each).
The companies present with its own exhibition stand will be instead: Troll, Nicese, Birrificio Torino, Cittavecchia, Citabiunda, Maltus Faber, Beba, L’Olmaia, Orso Verde, Zago, Pedavena, Birraceca (importer of beer from the Czech Republic), Baladin, Birra del Borgo and, outside Italy, Kulmbacher and De Koninck. In short, a pretty good representation, which can not fail to make beer lovers happy.
The beer will also be a major issue on which will focus some of the many tastings planned during Cheese. Here are all the “beer tasting”: Parmigiano-Reggiano and Italian craft beers (Friday, 18 hours 16.00), Cheeses and beers from Belgium (led by Kuaska with experts Dirk Martens and Jef Van den Steen, Friday 18 hours 16.00 ), Cheeses and beers of America (led by Kuaska with the expert Jeff Roberts, Friday 18 hours 19.00), Tuscan cigar, beer and cheese (with Leonardo Di Vincenzo of Birra del Borgo and Stefano Fanticelli, Friday 18 hours 21,00), When pit cheese meet the beer… (5 pit cheeses paired with 5 beers from Tuscany, Sunday 20 hours 16.00), Tuscan cigar, Le Baladin and Caffè Converso (with Teo Musso from Baladin e Stefano Fanticelli), Tuscan cigar, HY Cuvée and Bitto: triptych of pleasure (Saturday, 19 hours 21,00).
Even in tasty Appuntamenti a Tavola (Dinner Dates) beer will play a major role. I like to mention two events: The Beer Castle, also recommended by In.birrerya for the presence of Stefaan Couttenye, chef specialized in dishes with beer and I monelli e la birra, with dishes paired with beers from Troll, Birra Boero, Pause Cafè and Piazza dei Mestieri. You can find all the details about tastings and culinary events in their respective sections of the site of Cheese, hoping that there are still a few free seats.
Even this time Cheese is confirmed, therefore, like a great event, very interested in craft beer. Joining the event is a great experience (personally I joined two editions ago) and, as you’ll see, the possibilities to expand your own beer culture will not fail. For all information on Cheese you can refer to the official website, but I suggest you to download the pdf of the beer list, which incidentally is packaged impeccably, with a range of comprehensive informations for each product present.
