'10Hungary’s First Craft-Beer Festival
UPDATE: unfortunately, Főzdefeszt had to be postponed at the last minute to the spring of 2011, due to the gloomy weather forecasts, and some financial reasons.
Hungary will host its first craft-beer festival: Főzdefeszt – Első Hazai Kézműves Sörfesztivál. The festival will be held on 24-25 September, 2010 in Budapest, on the corner of the streets Nagymező and Király, on Budapest’s Broadway. The aim is to showcase the unknown achievements of Hungarian craft-beer, that has been largely overlooked until now, due to Hungary’s primary classification as a wine-country.
From all corners of the country, 10 microbreweries will bring more than 200 barrels of craft-beer to Budapest, presenting their best beers in a sort of mass beer-tasting. Next to their specialties, the brewers will draw an unfiltered, unpasteurized version of their usual pilsner-type lager.
The two-day festival shall offer a rare gastronomic treat on the field of solid nutriments as well, introducing the capital’s audience to the latest trends in beer-inspired food and beer snacks and food-beer pairings. There’ll be some musical entertainments also, featuring the living classic, the ninety+ years old accordionist, Miklós Tabányi, and some other younger musicians as well.
Before and after the festival, some of the best pubs around will draw some of the festival’s beers, so if you are early or late a few days, you still have a chance to savour the secret art of Hungarian brewers.
