Beery appointments at Salone del Gusto 2010

SaloneDelGusto2010_LogoAs everyone should already know, the eighth edition of the Salone del Gusto will be held in Turin from October 21st to 25th, 2010. According to an established tradition, the beer will be one of the “food” protagonists of the event, a detail confirmed by the controversy roused last July on the disposal of the brewers’ stands (for a review read the post I wrote in Italian). Beyond the logistical issues, I think it is interesting to find out what events will focus on our favorite beverage.

We therefore cannot start but from the Laboratori del Gusto (Taste Workshops), one of the flagships of the whole show. Among the most interesting: “Into the Mild” (Thursday, 21 @ 19.00), focusing on this ancient Anglo-Saxon style only recently revived, “La nouvelle vague of French beers” (Friday, 22 @ 16.00), bringing to light a nation that is trying to rediscover its brewing vocation, “The craft beers of Catalonia” (Friday 21 @ 22.00) with the brewer Pablo Vijande Majem that will guide the participants in the voyage through the Spanish brews, “A beer for every taste” (Saturday, 23 @ 13.00) with an exceptional speaker, the legendary Charlie Papazian, “Moeder Lambic’s real Belgium” (Sunday 24, @ 13.00), focused on one of the best beer premises of Belgium and its beers.

And more: “Fruity Beers” (Friday, 22 @ 13.00) with Lambic based beers and peculiar Italian brews, “The rise of Italian microbreweries” (Saturday, 23 @ 16.00) discovering the recent Italian brewing scenario. The Eataly Brewery project, widely debated in recent months, will be the topic of the workshop “Manhattan’s new Birreria” (Thursday, 21 @ 16.00), while the philosophy shared by Teo Musso (Baladin) and Eleonora Cunaccia (Primitivizia) will be disclosed in “Surprise pairings. Beer, flowers, fruits” (Thursday,21 @ 19.00).

For those interested in Anglo-Saxon styles I point out “Ladies and gentlemen: the Barley Wine” (Saturday, 23 @ 19.00), while those who prefer German styles will find at ease with “Bier and Wurst from Upper Franconia” (Sunday, 24 @ 16.00). The fashion of barrel aging will be the focus of “Yes to beer, Yes to barrel” (Sunday, 24 @ 19.00). The classic homebrewing meeting, “Homebrewers goes professional” (Monday, 25 @ 13.00) could not miss. Finally, the contact between beer and grapes will be analyzed, precisely, in “Beer and the grapes” (Monday, 25 @ 16.00).

Maybe I missed something, so check out the Workshops page on the website of the Salone del Gusto, taking into account that very few seats are still available.

programmaAmong the non-official events, must quote Wi+Fi, organized by the beershop Stato Liquido and Enoteca Bordò. This is a series of meetings for food, wine and beer lovers which include some tastings with brewers: Thursday, 21 Birrificio Italiano will open the dancing, Montegioco will host on Friday, 22; Toccalmatto on Saturday, 23 and Sunday, 24 will conclude with Loverbeer. For further information please visit the official website of the event. Good Salone to everyone will attend!
