Birra + at Pigneto district: the beershops of Rome increase

n200314215857_1254For the third time in the last ten months a new beershop has opened in Rome: that’s impressive, isn’t it? After the last onews in Prati district with the opening of Gradi Plato and Off License second venues, it’s now time to present the first beershop of Pigneto, characteristic working-class district in Rome that has recently been on the move with the opening of many pubs, clubs and commercial activities. This new beershop is called Birra + (literally “Beer +”) and it’s located at 105, Via del Pigneto. The inauguration was held in the end of June, but yesterday I came for a little visit…

The shop looks like a large hallway ideally divided in two rooms: in the first one the bottles are on some racks while they’re stored in fridge in the second room. I guess this disposition is temporary as the shop has opened few days ago and the furnish is yet to be arranged. In spite of this, the beer selection is already interesting and has a bright future.

Let’s start from the foreign selection, where we can find a large amount of american beers. Beside the “usual” Anchor, Brooklyn, Flying Dog, Sierra Nevada – it’s nice being allowed to underline the availabilityof those breweries – we find some rare products (for Italy) from Jolly Pumpkin, Southern Tier and Port Brewing. Continental beers are well shown with the bottles of the dutch De Molen and with some Belgian classic masterpieces like Achouffe, Blanche De Namur and De Dolle. There’s also a little space for the special ones, for example Juxtaposition, made from the union of Brewdog, Stone and Cambridge.

Italy obviously make his part, as the italian breweries present at Birra + are many and they own great qualities. I’m talking about the omnipresent Baladin, Birra del Borgo, Almond ‘22, Amiata (in the 33cl bottle), Piccolo Birrificio, Troll, Boa (with their latest brand “Na biretta”), Orso Verde etc… Limited edition and gift packs are also available.

Finally, in spite of his new opening, we can already claim this beershop as a great place to buy handcraft bottled beer. The beer selection is fantastic and with a good variety, waiting for further improvements in the next months. Birra + is therefore a new sellpoint that every roman beerlover should be aware of, now that in Pigneto there’s a new alternative for our beershopping.
