Maybe you know, or maybe not, but I still write it. Danes are enthusiast, because this week finally opened the first Mikkeller Bar in Copenhagen. As you can imagine, this is a premises owned by the Danish brewer, which will offer house beers both on tap (15-way system) and bottled. Will also host many productions from America and the rest of Europe, among which is easy to imagine the Italian Revelation Cat (Alex Liberati, the founder and brewer, and Mikkel, are great friends). Besides being a new address to be reported in the Danish capital, the Mikkeller Bar also offers the opportunity to reflect on the new trend of pubs owned by brewers.

'10Cantina Baladin and other news from Teo Musso
Everybody knows that Teo Musso, Baladin brewery founder , is an endlessly creative guy. This makes him a loved and hated bigwig: some welcome every news from Piozzo with open arms while others brand them as mere business deals. Obviously there are also those who try to analyze in a sound way each project and assessing his work considering only the quality of his beers, without external constraints.

'10A quick roundup of brewing news
Sometimes I read interesting news but on which it’s difficult to create an entire article. Other times the news are so much that it’s difficult even to keep up with them. In both cases the solution would be to write a nice post summarizing quickly the latest interesting events, and that is what I’m going to do today! So let’s go straight to illustrate the latest news of the Italian and international brewing world…

'09Christmas beers meet Arcangelo Dandini

The beers tasted, with the exception of San Nicolò from Cittavecchia
I have had the pleasure to attend an evening organized by the association Athenaeum and hosted at the marvelous Convoglia, a fascinating restaurant placed inside the Stazione Termini in Rome. An evening theme: pairings between Christmas beers and “haute cuisine”. As mentioned, the event have been based on 5 Italian “kerstbier”, paired with dishes prepared on purpose by a myth among roman restaurateurs: Arcangelo Dandini, chef of the restaurant “L’ Arcangelo”. Host of the event was Enrico Pozza, assisted by Arcangelo himself and by the representatives of the breweries involved.

'09A challenge between Belgium and Italy @ Open Baladin Rome

Palli, Schigi, Gregory and Leonardo
Last Friday I attended, along with fifty other passionates, a fantastic “tasting-contest” at Open Baladin in Rome. A match between Belgium and Italy with Gregory Verhelst from Rulles brewery, defending an old and renowned brewing tradition, and Alessio Selvaggio, from Croce di Malto brewery, Riccardo Franzosi from Montegioco and Paolo Fontana of Baladin for Italy. The rules were simple: three beers per side paired with specially designed finger food by Gabriele Bonci. An exceptional referee: Luigi d’Amelio, aka Schigi.

'09Croce di Malto brewery wins at Mondial de la Bière
Great result for Italy at Mondial de la Bière in Strasbourg. The Croce di Malto brewery in fact was awarded with the platinum medal for his Triplexxx, which was judged the absolute best among the beers. This is an impressive achievement, if we consider the large number of beers in the competition – from around the world – and the fact that the brewery was opened just ten months ago.

The taps and the bottles
After announcements, considerations and press releases, yesterday’s new Open Baladin of Rome has finally revealed to all enthusiasts and professionals. The Italian movement was waiting for this event with big expectations: since the beginning the project born from the Teo Musso’s mind (Baladin brewery) seemed to be something impressive. You just cross the threshold to see that the insights were right…
